We’re engaged!

This past Saturday Anthony and I got engaged! We don’t have a date or anything yet, but wanted to do a little post and let you know! I’m so excited! I’ve been wedding planning for a bit on Pinterest (like everyone else) but now it’s real! =]

So, I knew the ring was coming because we’d talked about getting one really soon, and I was sitting on the couch and glanced over at Anthony’s computer where he was tracking something on usps.com. Then of course I hounded him until he broke down and told me. He tried to lie but he’s the worst liar EVER. Seriously, if he ever has a secret it’s the easiest thing in the world to figure out. I figure this is a good quality to have in a husband.

The ring got here on Saturday and Anthony signed for it, but then went back to playing Diablo III while I waited impatiently for him to finish whatever it was he was doing on there. Then he trolled me for several minutes while he looked at the ring and kept it hidden from me. Finally he just handed it to me.

So later I made him actually propose. =P

We already had dinner planned for a belated father’s day and my younger brother’s birthday, so we met up with my family at Red Lobster. My mom was coming from a meeting and was late, so I had to wait until she got there to show her my ring! Of course, she already knew because Anthony had called my dad earlier in the day.

Now we have to figure out when the wedding will be and all that. I don’t want anything real big, but think it will turn out bigger than I’m thinking by the time it’s planned…

Anyone married or getting married have advice to share?

  1. Congrats!! The ring is gorgeous. I have TONS of advice to share: too much for a blog comment! I’m always up for helping out, I want to plan weddings for a career one day πŸ™‚

  2. Oh, Erin! How thrilling! And that ring is BEAUTIFUL! Gotta love those kickass vintage pieces. I didn’t do a lot of planning myself, but if you want advice on getting your wedding done in 5 months, I may be able to help! It’s so funny that you went to Red Lobster afterwards. That’s where we went with our parents to celebrate too!! And I got sick and puked in the bathroom… or all over the bathroom. Anyway, I am happy for you and I can’t wait to see what awesome stuff you put together for this. I know it will be fantastic. Hoobah!

  3. Oooh, I’ll probably get in touch with you soon then! Need to have a meeting with my parents before I actually plan anything. haha

  4. haha, since you got to hear about me complaining for ages about NOT having a ring I probably should have emailed you directly! lol

I’m not sure what our timeline is, we’ve talked about trying to pull it off this year still, we’ll see! If we do I’ll definitely get in touch with you!

Thankfully Red Lobster didn’t make me sick, though sorry, that’s kind of a hilarious story since it didn’t happen to me! lol

  5. Oooh, I love the ring! He did a great job – it’s beautiful!!!
    Congratulations again, Erin!!
I don’t have any real advice, except that buttercream frosted cakes are way tastier than the ones with fondant!

  6. you’re not going to tell me not to drive in my wedding dress? lol j/k =P

thank you! we’re really excited (though I’m probably more excited than he is, haha!)!

  7. Congratulations girly!!! I’ve been married for over about 2 years and I am currently a bridesmaid in a close friends wedding. I have tons of advice so if you ever need help with anything let me know! I am always in bridal mode!! Haha I didn’t have a traditional wedding (we went viva la courthouse) and I loved it. It was the best thing for me and the hubs. But I am very familiar with all the details.

Congrats again! It’s super fun! Don’t fight over the little things, let him have his way on certain things and most importantly remember its about you two not anyone else.

  8. Congratulations!! And your story sounds an awful lot like something that would happen between my mister and me– we’re not really the over-the-top romantic rules type either, and he’s horrible at keeping secrets πŸ™‚

  9. Congrats!! As far as advice goes…

Pick 5 things that are most important to you and let everything else go (as in don’t spend too much time planning it or let your parents figure that out). Weddings are crazy stressful and it’s important that you prioritize otherwise you’ll be all over the place and just go insane.
I prioritized (in this order) photography, dress, bridesmaids dresses, music/dancing, invitations. The photos will last forever. The dress will be a main focus. Bridesmaids are in so many pictures and I care about my girls! Dancing with my husband was amazing and I’ll never forget that. Invitations are the first impression.
When it came to food and decoration, there were so many people willing to help out so I let them take the reigns. It’s not like I’ll even eat or notice the decor.
Have loads of fun planning!!! Let the little things go! And don’t be too proud to ask for help or handouts.

  10. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ring is wonderful! I am so happy for you guys!
I don’t really have any advice. Our wedding was so small and did not include much planning. πŸ™‚

  11. HOORAY! CONGRATULATIONS! The only wedding advice that I will offer, is to keep things simple. Don’t plan one of those dreadful all day extravaganzas – you’ll be too exhausted to enjoy anything. For our wedding, my husband and I were married in the morning and had a short luncheon with the wedding party and a few guests (I think it was 30 people max). We were out of there by 2pm! We saved the receptions for later that summer – one in his hometown and one in mine. Easy peasy! It made planning much simpler, and I wasn’t pulling my hair out all day making sure that things were just right.

Good luck, and your ring is beautiful!

  12. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Being married is awesome, especially when you are married to your best friend. My hubby was on the Diablo kick for a while too….I think he went back to warcraft for the time being……

    again…………………YAY!! Congrats!!

  13. Meh. Don’t worry about me. This news is too exciting to keep it to yourself!

It wasn’t Red Lobster that made me sick. I was actually feeling ill when we got there. We’d gone camping that weekend and I ate food from the breakfast “buffet”. I blame it on the sneeze cheese. I thought I would be ok, but when I took that one bite of salad… no way! I ran to the bathroom and barely made it to the toilet. It was the most explosive puke I’ve ever had. I don’t mind if you laugh!

  14. Wow! Congratulations! ❀ So happy for you guys. Also yay for rings on Etsy! My second engagement ring (was allergic to the first) was from a great Etsy shop πŸ™‚

  15. oh man, those are the worst pukes! i don’t even know how vomit can shoot out like it does sometimes. haha

  16. OMG CONGRATULATIONS ERIN!! I remember you joking a while back in one of our emails about how you wish your mister would just propose already. hehe. That’s so funny that you knew it was coming. Jeremy completely threw me off guard with his proposal. I wasn’t anticipating it at all.

And like Whitney said, if you need any help or advice, let me know!! ❀

  17. First of all, OMG that ring is gorgeous!!! Hooray Etsy! Second, i would just like to say that if you do go with fondant on your cake (because fondant cakes look killer, IMHO), get them to use marshmallow fondant rather than that nasty pasty stuff. It’s pretty tasty, and can be flavored. Also, it peels right off, and you still have buttercream underneath. My cake was effing delish!

Can’t wait to help you with this! And to see you blogging about it, because I know you will:D

  18. Again: MASSIVELY HUGE, K-2 SIZED CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!! Finding that person you’re absolutely certain is going to be your partner in crime (and in cuddles and, well, other things) forever… well, it’s epic and, I’m pushing your blog into PG-13 territory here, but it’s fucking wonderful and I’m so stoked for you!

Haha, I love that proposal story! Jordan’s proposal was completely unexpected, and consisted of me responding with “Wait, really? NO WAY, SERIOUSLY? You want to — REALLY? Like, REALLY REALLY? I mean, YES, YES of COURSE I will! … SERIOUSLY?!”

Best of luck in the wedding planning area! I’m glad Jordan and I are on the same page with “small!” as our biggest wedding priority. Nothing huge and elaborate for us. :]

  19. (Also I kind of want that auto-assigned avatar to be my avatar for everything, because seriously, what is up with that)

  20. Thank you! I can’t wait to see more about your wedding because it seems like you two are making it so nice and personal with incorporating things you like! I’d like to do something similar, though instead of comics maybe something else we both are into…

  21. Thank you! And thanks for the advice about the cake–I actually don’t really like cake or icing, so not sure what we’re going to do! lol

  22. Thank you! haha, that sounds like a fun proposal though! But I’m not sure Anthony would ever get around to proposing if I didn’t bug him about it! lol

  23. Who says you have to have cake? Just Google wedding cake alternatives, you’ll see all kinds of other things people have done instead. My personal faves are the s’mores bar, and an arrangement of pies!

  24. Congrats, Erin!! He did a fantastic job on ring selection! (Which means you did a great job dropping hints, ha.)
    Advice? Don’t take advice πŸ™‚
