A few weeks ago, Anthony and I headed out to Ptarmigan Lake near Buena Vista, Colorado. Apparently there’s another Ptarmigan Lake up near Estes Park, but we haven’t been to that one yet!

Anyhow, I had started off the day in a really bad mood–our upstairs neighbors are very loud and waking up to their two-year-old screaming doesn’t put me in the best mood. So when we got to the place we planned on camping and found out it was full already, I was in an even worse mood.

Fortunately the campground host gave us some suggestions. One was a place where he recommended we not go unless we had a dog and a gun, and the other was just a really cool little grouping of free campsites by a river. Obviously we chose the latter.

Our campsite was really private and we could listen to the river. Since I was still grumpy, we decided not to hike that day, and instead pulled out our books and read for the afternoon. Then we made our favorite sausages, and snuggled down for the night.

The next morning I wasn’t awoken by a two-year-old, so after breakfast we were ready to hike!

It took us a bit to find the trail, but then it was a pretty nice hike most of the way up. Towards the top we ran into more snow and it became chilly, but that didn’t stop Anthony from taking a nap at the lake once we got there!

Then it was back down the mountain and home again!
